I imagine your invite for the Grammys got lost in the post this year, don’t worry, ours did too but we ditched the online bingo sites for one night to watch the star studded award ceremony and dream of walking down the red carpet arm in arm with a rock star. Not even a big bingo win could get us a life like that, we’d need to learn how to play the guitar first, or at least find out how to pronounce some of the band names.
The nominations and awards are long so we won’t bore you with every nitty gritty detail but it’s fair to say that the Brits among us had a good night. The pop sensation Adele swept up at the Grammys, taking home six awards, there wasn’t much left for anyone else after that but she accepted her big gold gong with pride. The feisty red head took home awards for album of the year, record of the year, song of the year, best solo performance, best pop vocal album and best short form music video, whatever that may be. It’s set to be a good year for the soppy artist who writes about her love life, I wonder what plans she has on Valentine’s Day - that will give us a hint into her next album at least.
Other awards went to Paul McCartney for best historical album and Corinne Bailey Rae who took home best R&B performance after years out of the spotlight, the late Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennett took home best pop duo with Amy’s emotional parents collecting the award on her behalf. The reins were then handed over to Americans with grunge band the Foo Fighters taking home best rock performance, best hard rock and mental performance, best rock song, best rock album and best long form music video. The good as gold folk singer Taylor Swift swept up in the country files taking home best country solo performance and best country song, the singer who is set to release a collaboration with The Civil Wars who scooped best country group performance with their single Barton hollow looked over joyed sauntering up to accept her awards with no tassels or cowboy boots in sight.
It doesn’t stop there; the musical geniuses that are Bon Iver leapt over Nicki Minaj and won best new act as well as best alternative album. The American alternative band just missed winning album of the year with Holocene, was pipped to the post by, surprise surprise, Adele. The lovely Rihanna and ex Chris Brown had a better night than they did at the 2009 Grammys and Chris took home best R&B album with F.A.M.E, Jay Z and Kanye West shared best rap performance and best rap collaboration was scooped by Rihanna, Kanye West, Fergie and Kid Cudie for their team work on All of the Lights which also scooped best rap song. These are just some of the acts; there is a long long list of people that we had to Google to find out who they were.
If this is the start of the music scene in 2012 however then we have some exciting things in store for us, Sing Bingo has always been the place to be for music lovers who like a bit of a warble, let’s hope the free bingo site is cooler than us and knows who some of the artists are, a date with the Foo Fighters would certainly be a good prize for a bingo bonus round, we’ll recommend that for their next promotion.
