Guy Fawkes and a group of twelve conspirators, dissatisfied with James the reigning King of England, James, decided to assassinate him when he opened the House of Parliament in London. When their plot was foiled, the King’s team of integrators performed all sorts of gruesome acts of torture to extract a confession from Guy. Like Guy, the details of his demise may have been stretched over the years, but it meant that his body and those of his conspirators were hung outside parliament as a gruesome caution to the city.
Londoners built a bonfire that night to celebrate the King’s survival. Over the years people have built effigies to put on the fire that became known as “guys”. When you throw your own Bonfire Night celebrations how can you make sure it’s remembered for all the right reasons?
Serve up a Fiery Feast
With the flames raging in the background, serve your guests an autumnal barbeque. Laden the grill with steaks, skewers, potatoes and of course, bangers! For post-supper treats, toasted marshmallows are always a favourite.
