Farnborough Opens Bingo Hall
Monday, 3 February 2014
There has been lots of news lately about traditional bingo halls and how they have been struggling. Of course this has been a result of a lot of reasons first of all the increase in tax from 15% to 20%. There has also been the surge online and mobile bingo coupled with the smoking ban that has a damaging effect. This is why we were surprised to hear that there is a brand new bingo hall set to open it's doors in Farnborough.
This new bingo hall was formerly a Pizza Hut and the recent application has been approved – so they now have he go ahead. The owner of Rivabingo.com and Newcastle Bingo Ltd Simon Hannah was the one to make the application and it was reported that it was a unanimous decision with everyone involved. John Marsh who is the councillor in that area was however reported as saying that the only positive thing he can see from the application is it means that a building that hasn't been used will serve a purpose. He also said that in order to reject an application – there of course needs to be good reasons and they couldn't really find any. Although he would have much rathered a shop or something – at least there was an application.
It would appear that all of the residents in the area weren't 100% on board with this new business either as they felt that it could damage the good reputation of their community. Simon Hannah on the other hand was thrilled by the news and can't wait to turn the empty property into a fully functioning bingo hall. He also said that there are currently people who need to travel quite some time currently to get their traditional bingo fix – so it should be popular amongst them. Let's hope it's a hit!
