Charitable Bingo
Tuesday, 25 December 2012 | Written by Carol DianWe do love to tell you all about the excellent charitable efforts of lovely online bingo fans and of course there is always loads to write about. Bingo lovers tend to be the most charitable of all, and we have 2 more reports of how big hearted you all are! Both of these reports are hot off the press from this week alone, and with the run up to Christmas, we are sure that there will be a lot more to come!
The first story comes from a hospital in Norfolk where a girl who has been suffering with pancreatitis since the tender age of 2 raised cash in the hopes of giving her fellow Sick Kids patient she very best Christmas ever. Rachel Glass is now 18 years old and has been moved from the Sick Kids ward, however she will never forget the lovely kids that she met whilst a patient there, and wanted to give them the best Christmas ever this year. She joined forces with the staff on hand at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to run a bingo game to raise the cash and also to raise awareness. She held the charity bgo game at her local high school Fakenham in November and managed to exceed her won targets by a huge amount! Bingo fans from all over Kings Lynn in Norfolk banded together to play the fun-packed game and Rachel managed to raise an incredible £10K! She has since spent that cash on tonnes of presents to give to the kids in hospital. She stated:
“The staff on the children’s ward are great and having stayed so long in hospital the staff become a second family. The staff work so hard and I have been fund raising for the ward for many years to give the children extra special things whilst they are in. I would like to thank all the people who helped on the night! Without their help the evening would have been really impossible.”
The second report of the charitable nature of bingo fans emerged from Dorset this week, where a local library – who have been trying to raise funds to buy loads of educational new books – decided to hold a bingo game to boost their cash. The charity bingo night was held in a local pub and thanks to the efforts of over a hundred bingo fans, the library now finds itself with over £500 more to splash on their much needed new collection. The library are over the moon with the efforts of the community, and issued this statement:
“We are thrilled! People were so generous! We received not only clear messages of support but I actually recruited a further volunteer on the night!”
The charity bingo game was actually held by the manager of the pub – dubbed the Black Bear – and the owner stated simply:
“We wanted to do something to support the Friends who have worked tirelessly to keep the library in the village. It’s typical of this community and my regulars to have a lively evening for a good cause.”
