When it comes to the Golden Globes before we get to who won one of the most important things to discuss is who wore what! Getting the dress right for the red carpet is almost as important as any acting that went on especially for the ladies- so who got it right and who missed the boat on the carpet this year?
Well the first thing to note was that white seemed to be the colour of choice for the gowns. Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, Nicole Kidman and Elle Macpherson all opted for the white trend. The Dior Couture worn by Theron was definitely the most daring fashion choice of the white gowns with a thigh high split and flamboyant bow. However she managed to pull it off and looked more beautiful than ever! As usual Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were one of the most glamorous looking couples, with Jolie wearing a red and white contrasting satin gown and Pitt in a slim fit tux. There were a few that went with a more colourful option and it paid off- Reese Witherspoon looked amazing in a curve hugging Zac Posen gown and Natalie Portman looked pretty in pink.
Okay, so now we know who won in the style stakes who actually won the gongs? Well, Britain didn’t do too badly- in fact there was a bit of a Brit theme. Kicking the victory off at the Television and Film awards was hit ITV1 drama ‘Downtown Abbey’ with its win of Best Mini Series. The Earl and Countess of Grantham characters or Elizabeth McGovern and Hugh Bonneville were some of the cast members who got to attend and pick up the ward on stage. English rose Kate Winslet won Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie for her role in ‘Mildred Pierce’ and also looked great in a black and white Jenny Packham gown. Idris Elba did his bit for Britain by winning his first Golden Globe for his role in BBC crime drama ‘Luther’. The legend that is Meryl Streep also scooped best actress for her performance in ‘The Iron Lady’- the film based on the historic reign of UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
However the star of the show was definitely new film ‘The Artist’ which received the most amount of awards- winning best Picture, Musical or Comedy, Original Score and Jean Du Jardin- dubbed the new ‘French George Clooney’ –also won best actor for his role in the film.
